ChatGPT for Job Search
This AI bot will blow your mind… and will also help you to get that next dream job.
To make things faster I just recorded a video and posted it on YouTube. Watch this if you learn faster through video content.
If you prefer text format, read on.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is an AI chat bot which you can ask questions and it will respond to you in a way that is not complete nonsense :) Considering the things it can do, chances are you will be impressed.
I have been playing with ChatGPT for the past hour, and I probably just scratched the surface, but here are some applications you can explore as a job seeker.
Use cases
Well, first. You can ask ChatGPT itself how to use it :)
Let’s take a close look at the use cases.
1. Resume Writing.
You can:
- Upload the Job Description into the ChatGPT
- Ask to break it down and get you the perfect candidate profile. Here is a sample generated from one of the Caseware job descriptions.
- Yes, you can use ChatGPT to write job descriptions too. It will customize the text based on the input.
- You can extract keywords to integrate them into your resume.
- You can ask it to write a sample bullet list of achievements and skills for your profession.
Example:
- You can now use this content to customize it for your particular case and integrate it into your own resume.
2. Interview Preparation
You can ask interview questions and get sample answers to practice. This is especially useful if English is your second language.
(You can also ask ChatGPT to generate interview questions for you.)
3. Networking.
Ask the ChatGPT to generate outreach messages or cold emails for you. You will still have to customize/personalize this to increase your conversion.
4. Research
You can definitely find some basic information about the company through ChatGPT.
5. Personal branding.
Want to write an About section on LinkedIn? Not a problem.
Want to find a topic to write about? Here you go:
Generate content ideas for your next post? Ok!
ChatGPT can even create some generic blog posts. Of course, you will have to do some creative work, but having the first stab at the outline helps.
The creative work of humans is to mix things that have not been mixed before. But the building blocks can be supplied by AI.
You can become a content creator by becoming a content curator. AI will definitely help in this.
Bonus
Some other things you can do:
- You can request book summaries
- ChatGPT can solve math problems (and help you help your kids with their homework)
- It can give you the basic explanations of concepts (e.g. I asked about some Religions and got pretty sound content in return)
- It can write bloody poems… 😲 Here is one inspired by a puppy we were dogsitting this week that shat on my wife’s new carpet.
Final thoughts
AI is here. Chengeer is hyped. So many things that we can do. I am of course thinking about using ChatGPT in recruitment… 🤔
A little bit scary as my Recruitment Job can be gone sooner rather than later. But I want to see this technology being leveraged in talent acquisition.
Some potential applications that I want to see implemented:
- Initial pre-screening. Candidates will be talking with the bots and matched based on the answers they provide. Initial match-making using AI will not be a substitute for the work of Human Recruiters. But we will finally get a lot of hours back since we won’t have to screen tons of resumes and speak with candidates who are not qualified.
- In the beginning, the quality of the resumes will go up. Candidates will be leveraging AI to create better marketing for themselves. But eventually, I would envision a system where resumes become obsolete. The current system is broken and we can build a better one.
- Companies will be able to build candidate education systems — a portal where candidates will come to ask questions about the company and get very comprehensive information about the organization, its strategy, values, financial health, etc. Deeper research will lead to an increase in speed and quality. This smart AI can even be combined with an interview part, where both sides learn about each other in a way that is indistinguishable from a real human conversation.
- Companies that train their bots will create not just a recruitment system, but a coaching system with instant feedback and actual personalized career advice that is specific to the role and the company. “Here is what you need to do. Upskill. Come back to apply in a year.”
- CareerGPS will finally go live. So many people are confused about where they can go next with their current skill set. ChatGPT can help to do a proper self-audit on skills, psychological profile, and preferences and connect the dots and correlate with people who are further along in their careers.
I can go and on…
Applications in entrepreneurship? I am taking this question to my thought sandbox but would definitely want to play around with ChatGPT a little further.
Today was Day 1. And it was a good day.
p.s. The year 2023. Humans didn’t know they are about to be extinct. Father Musk was right. 🤖
